Behavior of B- and Z-DNA Crystals under High Hydrostatic Pressure
نویسندگان
چکیده
Single crystals of B-DNA and Z-DNA oligomers were analyzed under high hydrostatic pressure their behavior was compared to the A-DNA already known. The amplitude base compression, when A-form DNA (0.13 Å/GPa), higher for (0.32 Å/GPa) highest (0.42 Å/GPa). crystal degraded rapidly around 400–500 MPa, while Z-structure more resistant, up 1.2 GPa.

Structural change in a B-DNA helix with hydrostatic pressure
Study of the effects of pressure on macromolecular structure improves our understanding of the forces governing structure, provides details on the relevance of cavities and packing in structure, increases our understanding of hydration and provides a basis to understand the biology of high-pressure organisms. A study of DNA, in particular, helps us to understand how pressure can affect gene act...
متن کاملHigh hydrostatic pressure
The use of high pressure processing (HPP) in the food industry was developed as an alternative to common thermal processes, such as pasteurization and sterilization, to produce a microbiologically safe food while avoiding and reducing undesirable changes in sensory, physiochemical and nutritional properties of foods. The use of high pressure at high temperatures as a tool for sterilization (hig...
متن کاملConformation of p-terphenyl under hydrostatic pressure.
The conformation of p-terphenyl (C18H14) and deuterated p-terphenyl (C18D14) has been investigated, using high-pressure infrared spectroscopy at liquid-helium temperatures. First-principles calculations, together with the experimental results, were performed to determine the structure of p-terphenyl in the twisted conformation. At low temperatures and pressures, p-terphenyl belongs to the C2 po...
متن کاملInfrared spectroscopy of biphenyl under hydrostatic pressure
Changes in the conformations of conjugated molecules affect the optical and electronic properties significantly. Hydrostatic pressure has been used to probe the conformations of biphenyl (C12H10) and deuterated biphenyl (C12D10) at liquid-helium temperatures. Infrared ~IR! spectra of these materials have been taken up to a pressure of 2 GPa. A disappearance of certain IR absorption peaks has be...
متن کاملStudy of flux pinning mechanism under hydrostatic pressure in optimally doped (Ba,K)Fe2As2 single crystals
Strong pinning depends on the pinning force strength and number density of effective defects. Using the hydrostatic pressure method, we demonstrate here that hydrostatic pressure of 1.2 GPa can significantly enhance flux pinning or the critical current density (Jc) of optimally doped Ba0.6K0.4Fe2As2 crystals by a factor of up to 5 in both low and high fields, which is generally rare with other ...
